The polymer polyethylethylketone or PEEK is being used increasing for the production of fittings and accessories for HPLC. PEEK fittings are normally fingertight and can withstand pressures well in excess of the pressures typically employed in HPLC. PEEK fittings offer the advantage of biocompatibility and completely metal free chromatographic systems can easily be constructed. PEEK tubing is particularly suitable for HPLC transmission tubing and can easily withstand the pressures involved. In contrast to stainless steel tubing, it is easy to cut, leaving a neat finish, minimizing dead volumes in connecting unions.
